Gloria Estefan and Covid-19

I used to enjoy Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine in the late 80s. Her Let it Loose album was a blast. While I was at a Florida State Beach in Miami, I heard someone play “Anything for you.” in Spanish on their boombox. I remember as I drove around Florida, that I crossed the street Gloria lived on. Years have passed, and I had not thought about her. Then the coronavirus came. I was hearing on the news that people over 60 should not fly. This was back in February. I was worried about my husband, who is 62. We had a trip planned. I could not bear him coming down with the coronavirus or imagine him under a ventilator in the hospital. I had to have a root canal, so I went to the endodontist one day. When I walked out of the endodontist’s chair and into the waiting room, I heard the song ” I don’t wanna lose you.” by Gloria Estefan. My husband got out of his chair and walked towards me. I grabbed my husband by the hand as he made kissing sounds at me. It was like a message from God. He gave me a song by Gloria Estefan to sing to help express my fear of losing my husband to the coronavirus. Ever since then, I thought about Gloria Estefan a lot more. I searched and found her on Pandora. It was good listening to her Let it Loose album again. I even did a dance on my YouTube channel to her “Let it Loose” song. I looked her up on Wikepedia, and I learned so much about all that has happened to her since I last listened to her music! I didn’t realize her tour bus got in an accident, or that she underwent intense physical therapy to get her strength back. I then found a channel devoted to Gloria Estefan on YouTube. I saw some good recent productions by her. There was a Kennedy Center production that featured Gloria Estefan. She also performed at a Barack Obama summit and at an auditorium from the Library of Congress. Just the other day I watched her “We Needed Time” video. She sang how she and her family needed time to reimagine. I’m in the process of reimagining myself. The scenery in the video is breathtaking. It has beautiful scenes from Miami including dolphins. After all, she lives there. She also put out a recent video spoofing one of her own songs to communicate the message of putting on your mask. It’s called “Put on your Mask.” to the tune of “Get on Your Feet.” It really inspires me during this dark and dreary time to enjoy Gloria Estefan even more now than I used to. She’s coming out with an album called Brazil 305 this August. I saw a video that Gloria did of Brazil with beautiful scenes on YouTube. She’s coming out with an album called Brazil 305 this August. I will be following Gloria on social media, and continuing to listen to her music on Pandora. She’s been a breath of fresh air for me lately.
